My Reflection

x

Reflection:

I really enjoyed this course. Learning skills like the GUM method helped me learn how to be a better writer. Writing on the boards as teams and going over as groups stretching our thinking, perception, and learning. The writing involved creative writing and allows me to exemplify skills concerning websites and instruction but in a digital format. Not only did my research and writing skills increase but also my tech skills. Like how to markup a photo and section different paragraphs in different ways. My Site is a reflection of my projects, writing, research, and ideas. I have always been passionate about exploring new topics and sharing my findings with others. This site is a platform to share my work and to connect with people who are interested in similar topics. Whether it be a project I am actively working on or conducting research, I strive to produce content that is engaging and informative. I have learned and applied several principles from the course. I extend an invitation to you to explore my projects and join me on my journey of learning, discovery, growth, and success.

Challenges:

I faced difficulty with the weather doing the project. It was very cold and I had to work outside due to no available garage space. I dressed in multiple layers to fix that. I also did not know how to find credible sources. I now read more than just the first page of searches. I had trouble with unnecessary wordiness and also the use of random distracting jargon. The writings are more simplified now. Before I had poor composition and unclear directions which is now more detail oriented. Some of my feedback included hard to decipher language and misleading headings so that had to be rectified. I made sure to ensure there is no questionable info quality. And lastly, I had problems with color coordination so I tested different templates across different platforms on Google.

Research and Writing Skills

I gained a lot of skills on how to find credible sources. How to identify what users want to read and how to be informative and appealing. Writing skills I learned where how to write with more clear titles and better readability. My structure content is better as well as my appearance, grammar and language. I am better organized and am now a confident writer able to convey information in a easy to read format. I use more images of actual examples providing more detail. With added markup my photos now look much better. I learned how instructions are created and what makes instructions easy to follow and use. Gifs, actions shots, and videos and other visual cues can now be found in my work. Good clear steps, all tools listed, bolded headings, and proper headings are things that I learned and now apply to writings.

Effectively organizing information is also very important and understanding the language of researching. Research works through keywords and I have developed a skill in knowing how to structure said keywords into a way in which the search engines are able to  provide me exactly with what I am looking for. In my device page I had to use specific wording like "official Milwaukee documentation" to find credible documents that are from the company itself. Tone was improved and allowing the reader to view my perspective more closely. I never would have thought that using certain words would be hard to translate in other languages so now my writings are adjusted to reflect that issue. The use of font, syntax, bullet point headings were altered to be more contemporary and professional. Hyperlinks were changed to inserted links attached to titles to direct traffic and helped with clarity.

I believe that the grouping of information can allow a writer to organize better. When you analyze, discuss, critique, compare and contrast you can extract more in depth what the author is trying to show. Throughout my Fast fix project I organized all information into steps and had pictures guiding the users the from start to finish. And in my e-portfolio I used Padlet to brainstorm my thoughts and connect them together. Resulting in easy transition to website draft.
